BEML Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) and HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI). This alliance seeks to develop and produce in India a new generation of harbor and offshore cranes<\/a><\/strong>, both conventional and. The alliance aims to develop and produce in India a new generation of port and maritime cranes, both conventional and autonomous, with advanced technology and domestic manufacture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supported by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Ports, Navigation and Waterways, the collaboration focuses on the entire value chain: from design and integration to after-sales support, spare parts and technical training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Port Cranes and Maritime Vision Amrit Kaal 2047<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The initiative aligns with India’s goal of becoming one of the top five maritime powers by 2047. To this end, it plans to increase the country’s port handling capacity to 10 billion tons annually,<\/strong> while decreasing dependence on imported technology, especially from countries such as China. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cranes resulting from this collaboration will stand out for their energy efficiency, capacity for automation, and adaptability to port expansion projects<\/a><\/strong>. Manufacturing will be performed at BEML’s industrial facilities, taking advantage of its heavy engineering expertise, while KSOE and HSHI will provide world-class expertise in shipbuilding and automated loading systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technological sovereignty and employment generation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This agreement also contemplates the generation of qualified jobs and promotes the participation of the private sector in the development of high-value marine technologies<\/a><\/strong>. The initiative seeks to consolidate India’s technological autonomy in a strategic industry, with a focus on long-term solutions for shipyards, ports and logistics centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signing of the agreement<\/a><\/strong> took place at BEML’s headquarters in Bangalore. It was attended by Shantanu Roy, president and CEO of BEML; Han Nae Choi and Young Hoon Kwon, senior managers of KSOE; and Jong Ho Park, head of the industrial cranes<\/a><\/strong> of HSHI. The document was signed by Cmde R.G.K. Rao (Ret.), head of BEML’s marine business unit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
