The Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm, developed by \u00d8rsted and Nuveen Infrastructure, has begun supplying power to the German power grid<\/strong><\/a>. This 913 MW complex is located in the North Sea, some 72 km off the coast of Lower Saxony, and consists of 83 wind turbines of 11 MW each. <\/p>\n\n

With this initial connection, \u00d8rsted takes a key step towards full commercial operation of the park, scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. The power produced will be distributed through corporate power purchase agreements (CPPAs) already signed with companies such as Amazon, BASF, Covestro, Google and REWE Group, covering a total of 786 MW. <\/p>\n\n

Borkum Riffgrund 3 redefines wind infrastructure<\/h2>\n\n

Borkum Riffgrund 3 is \u00d8rsted’s first offshore wind farm in Germany built without an offshore substation. Instead, the wind turbines<\/g><\/g> are directly connected to the DolWin epsilon converter platform, operated by the grid manager TenneT. This innovation streamlines the infrastructure and optimizes efficiency in electricity delivery. <\/p>\n\n

In addition to its energy relevance, the project has boosted the European supply chain. Key components such as turbines, foundations, cables and installation vessels are installation vessels<\/g><\/g> from Germany, Denmark, France, the Netherlands and Belgium. This integration strengthens Europe’s energy independence while generating employment in the regional manufacturing sector. <\/p>\n\n

From its headquarters in Denmark, \u00d8rsted is leading the energy transformation with more than 10 GW of installed offshore wind capacity worldwide. In Germany, with Borkum Riffgrund 3, the company will exceed 2.5 GW by 2026, supplying the equivalent of 2.5 million homes. <\/p>\n\n
