The company will install its PowerTitan 2.0 BESS system, bringing the project&#8217;s installed capacity to <strong>1.6 GW \/ 3.3 GWh.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What exactly does the project consist of?<\/h2>\n\n<p>The Thorpe Marsh project will not only mark a before and after for the energy storage <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/energy-storage-on-fossil-fuel-dependence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">large-scale energy storage<\/a><\/strong> its capacity is equivalent to <strong>more than 20% of the entire national battery infrastructure currently installed<\/strong>. The system will power more than <strong>785,000 homes each year and export more than 2,000 GWh annually<\/strong>, directly contributing to stabilizing the grid and managing the intermittency of renewable sources. <\/p>\n\n<p>The project is being developed by <strong>Fidra Energy<\/strong> and has already started its construction phase to be <strong>operational by mid-2027<\/strong>. It is a stand-alone plant, i.e., it is not directly linked to renewable generation. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sungrow&#8217;s technological bet<\/h2>\n\n<p>The PowerTitan 2.0 system is a battery energy storage system (BESS). <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/sonnedix-japan-launches-first-battery-energy-storage-system-in-oita\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">battery energy storage system (BESS).<\/a><\/strong> large-scale, <strong>liquid-cooled<\/strong>, modular design. It is specifically designed for utility-scale projects, featuring <strong>high energy density and efficiency<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>Unlike air-cooled systems, this system ensures a more uniform operating temperature for the battery cells. This results in <strong>longer service life<\/strong>, <strong>lower auxiliary power consumption<\/strong> for air conditioning and <strong>improved full cycle efficiency (RTE)<\/strong>, which reduces operating costs. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Investment, institutional support and contracts<\/h2>\n\n<p>The Thorpe Marsh development has an investment of close to <strong>\u00a3750 million<\/strong>, backed by EIG, the UK National Wealth Fund and a syndicate of international lenders including Natwest, Santander CIB, Deutsche Bank AG, Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale and Standard Chartered Bank.<\/p>\n\n<p>The viability of the project is ensured through <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/amazon-agrees-to-purchase-164-mw-of-solar-power-in-poland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with EDF, Octopus Energy and Statkraft<\/a><\/strong> with EDF, Octopus Energy and <strong>Statkraft<\/strong>, which will cover around <strong>80% of its capacity<\/strong>. In addition, it has received a capacity market award from the UK government for a 15-year period starting in 2028. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Towards 2035: An Energy Roadmap<\/h2>\n\n<p>In addition to the Thorpe Marsh project, the company will also contribute its technology to the <strong>West Burton C<\/strong> project (500 MW\/1.1 GWh), also led by Fidra Energy.
