Located at the Sines refinery, the complex will produce <strong>renewable diesel (HVO)<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/sustainable-aviation-fuel-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)<\/a><\/strong>, two alternatives with a lower climate impact than traditional fossil fuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What will these fuels be made from?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The new <strong>biofuel plant<\/strong> will use <strong>used cooking oils, animal fats and other biological waste<\/strong> as feedstocks, combined with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/hydrogen-green-green-technology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">green hydrogen<\/a><\/strong> generated at <strong>Galp&#8217;s H\u2082 Park<\/strong>. This synergy will make it possible to transform waste into energy, within a circular and low-carbon economy model. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From an environmental standpoint, the project will reduce <strong>greenhouse gas emissions<\/strong> by up to <strong>88%<\/strong>, and will prevent the discharge of approximately <strong>800 thousand tons of CO\u2082 per year.<\/strong> In addition, water use will be minimized through the reuse of rain and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/green-hydrogen-becomes-cheaper-thanks-to-wastewater\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">treated water<\/a><\/strong> along with actions to preserve local species such as the Cabrera rat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Million-dollar investment with impact on employment and local development<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With an investment of <strong>400 million euros<\/strong>, the HVO@Galp project will generate <strong>up to 1,050 jobs during its construction phase<\/strong>. Once operational, it is estimated that between <strong>226 and 276<\/strong> direct and indirect <strong>jobs<\/strong> will be created. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The complex will be integrated into the existing infrastructure of the Sines refinery and on land in the <strong>Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone (ZILS)<\/strong>, covering <strong>more than nine hectares<\/strong> and three operational areas: feedstock pretreatment, production unit and auxiliary systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biofuels ready for today&#8217;s transportation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the strengths of the project is that the fuels produced will be fully compatible with current infrastructure and engines, both in <strong>road<\/strong> transport and <strong>aviation<\/strong>.
