{"id":313288,"date":"2025-11-16T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-16T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/seaturns-starts-testing-its-wave-energy-technology\/"},"modified":"2025-11-17T09:23:58","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T13:23:58","slug":"seaturns-starts-testing-its-wave-energy-technology","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/seaturns-starts-testing-its-wave-energy-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Seaturns starts testing its wave energy technology"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>After a decade of research and six months of intensive manufacturing, <strong>Seaturns<\/strong> has begun full-scale Phase 1 testing of its <strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/submarine-wave-energy-with-500-more-efficiency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wave energy<\/a> system<\/strong> in the port of Nantes Saint-Nazaire.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The prototype, a <strong>42-ton<\/strong> cylindrical steel structure <strong>, 15 meters long and 6 meters in diameter<\/strong>, is designed to generate up to <strong>200 kW of power.<\/strong> Its fast and efficient construction has been possible thanks to the collaboration with MECASOUD, the company in charge of manufacturing. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does Phase 1 testing consist of?<\/h2>\n\n<p>During this first phase, Seaturns teams successfully performed <strong>buoyancy maneuvers<\/strong>, safety operations, onboard access and assembly of the electrical conversion module. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/dikwe-converts-port-breakwaters-into-power-generators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">electrical conversion module<\/a><\/strong>. The most outstanding achievement is that, in only <strong>2 hours and with a small team<\/strong>, they were able to simulate a repair (disassembly and assembly of the electrical module). <\/p>\n\n<p>Thanks to this phase, they were able to demonstrate that <strong><strong>maintenance<\/strong> can be done at sea<\/strong>, without the need for costly towing of the device to dry dock.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What comes next?<\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>Phase 2<\/strong> testing is scheduled for the <strong>first quarter of 2026<\/strong>, where they will take the device out into the open ocean to test it in <strong>real-world conditions<\/strong> for at least a year. Among the objectives of this phase are:   <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Certify how much power it can reliably generate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verify that it is resistant to storms and harsh marine conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Study its impact on the marine environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The success of this phase will be decisive in achieving <strong>industrialization and commercialization<\/strong>, scheduled for the end of 2026.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is supporting this project?<\/h2>\n\n<p>The project is part of the <strong>IAS-WEC program<\/strong>, winner of the i-Nov competition, and is financially supported by the #France2030 plan<strong>, the ADEME and Bpifrance<\/strong>, in addition to the support of the European Union through the fund <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/tecnicas-reunidas-and-siemens-energy-promote-a-green-methanol-plant-in-la-robla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Next Generation EU<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>In terms of industrial support, the <strong>port of Nantes &#8211; Saint Nazaire<\/strong> has played a crucial role as a test site, and the <strong>P\u00f4le Mer Bretagne Atlantique<\/strong> is contributing to the validation and technical support of the project.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wave energy: a clean and competitive option<\/h2>\n\n<p>Wave energy is enormous and constant, but it has always been a real challenge to capture it efficiently and economically.
