During the Gateway Gulf forum in Manama, Foulath Holding and Yellow Door Energy<\/strong> announced the construction of the world’s largest rooftop solar plant<\/strong>, a 123 megawatt peak (MWp) project that will position Bahrain as an international benchmark in clean energy<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project includes the installation of more than 189,900 solar panels<\/strong> distributed over 14 sites, including a 262,000 m\u00b2 rooftop with a capacity of 50 MWp, a world record for a single site. This infrastructure will generate 200 million kWh of clean energy per year<\/strong>, which translates into a reduction of 90,000 metric tons of CO\u2082.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A strategic alliance with global impact<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The project is a collaboration between Foulath Holding<\/strong>, parent industrial holding company of Bahrain Steel and SULB, and Yellow Door Energy<\/strong>, a leading developer of solar solutions for businesses in the Middle East and Africa. Implementation will be under a power purchase agreement (PPA)<\/strong>, allowing companies to benefit from renewable energy with no upfront investment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yellow Door Energy will assume the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance<\/strong> of the system for the duration of the contract. With more than one billion kWh already generated by its previous projects, the company thus consolidates its position as a key player in the regional energy transition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the objective of the project?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The main objective is to decarbonize steel production<\/strong> in the Kingdom by aligning Foulath’s industrial operations with the principles of sustainable development. In recent years, the group has earmarked $250 million for environmental initiatives<\/strong>, reinforcing its role as a pioneer in corporate responsibility within the steel sector<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the country, the world’s largest rooftop solar plant<\/strong> aligns with its national goal of achieving net zero emissions<\/a> by 2060<\/strong> and demonstrates that, despite its oil wealth, it is seriously investing in a diversified and sustainable energy future. The announced Gateway Gulf international investment forum seeks to attract more foreign capital by showcasing<\/strong> Bahrain as a hub of innovation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
