The South African mining company Gold Fields officially opened its first operation in Chile: the Salares Norte project. Located more than 4,000 meters above sea level, in the commune of Diego de Almagro (Atacama Region), this mine is poised to become a key player in the country’s\u00a0
gold production<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gold production on the rise<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With a projection of 350,000 ounces of gold for this year, Salares Norte could increase national gold production by more than 25%<\/strong>, placing Chile among the top 20 producers in the world. This advance is part of an investment of close to US$1.19 billion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The complex operates with advanced technologies: it uses solar energy<\/a><\/strong> and has a dry filtered tailings system, eliminating the need for traditional tailings dams. In addition, there is a remote control center in Santiago, from where operations are monitored via satellite. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gold Fields noted that 30% of its workforce comes from the Atacama region and 26% are women, exceeding the national average for the sector. More than 200 local companies are part of its supply chain, strengthening the regional economic ecosystem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dialogue with communities and sustainable future<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Government authorities<\/a><\/strong> valued the anticipated work with local communities. The Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, highlighted that Salares <\/a>N<\/a>orte<\/a><\/strong> embodies the principles of modern mining<\/a><\/strong> The company embodies the principles contemplated in the National Mining Policy 2050 and the Sector Plan for Climate Change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
