{"id":309817,"date":"2025-12-22T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-22T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/?p=309817"},"modified":"2025-12-09T15:50:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T19:50:06","slug":"nguya-flng-preparation-phase-2-congo-lng","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/nguya-flng-preparation-phase-2-congo-lng\/","title":{"rendered":"Nguya FLNG begins preparation for Phase 2 of Congo LNG project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Eni officially announced the departure of the <strong>floating liquefied natural gas unit Nguya FLNG<\/strong>, which is part of the second phase of the <strong>Congo LNG project.<\/strong> The farewell ceremony was held in Shanghai, the city where it was built by <strong>Wison New Energies<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the Congo LNG Project<\/strong>?<\/h2>\n\n<p>It is an <strong>energy project led by <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/eni-and-uk-plan-carbon-capture-and-storage-in-liverpool-bay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Eni<\/a><\/strong> to extract, liquefy and export natural gas from fields located in the <strong>Marine XII block<\/strong>, off the coast of the Republic of Congo. The project is being developed in several phases:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Phase 1:<\/strong> The incorporation of Tango FLNG, a smaller unit that has been operational since December 2023, with a capacity of <strong>0.6 MTPA<\/strong> (Million Tons Per Year). It has already exported 12 cargoes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Phase 2:<\/strong> The incorporation of Nguya FLNG. <strong>Expected to be operational by the end of 2025<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The merger of the two units:<\/strong> When both are operational, the project will have a combined capacity of <strong>3 MTPA<\/strong>, multiplying by five times the initial production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Technical details of Nguya FLNG<\/h2>\n\n<p>The unit is basically a <strong>giant, floating industrial plant<\/strong> that extracts natural gas from the seabed and cools it to a liquid (LNG) for transport on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/crowley-and-naturgy-launch-the-first-u-s-lng-tanker-to-serve-puerto-rico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LNG tankers<\/a><\/strong>. It will be 376 meters long and 60 meters wide and will be anchored offshore to process gas from multiple fields in the block. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eni.com\/en-IT\/actions\/global-activities\/republic-congo\/marine-xii.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marine XII<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>The FLNG unit <strong>was built in a record time of only 33 months<\/strong>, with a design that reduces its <strong>carbon footprint<\/strong>. Instead of building everything from scratch, the company <strong>recycled and adapted<\/strong> an existing drilling rig (the Scarabeo 5) for one of its functions, saving costs, time and reducing environmental impact. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Participation of Wison and POSH<\/h2>\n\n<p>The construction of the FLNG unit was commissioned to the Chinese company <strong>Wison New Energies<\/strong>, while Singaporean firm <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/abl-unit-wins-contract-on-enis-flng-project-off-the-coast-of-congo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">POSH<\/a><\/strong> will be in charge of the maritime transport to its final mooring point in the Congo.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More than five decades of Eni in the Congo<\/h2>\n\n<p>The company has maintained an uninterrupted presence in the Republic of Congo for more than <strong>55 years<\/strong>.
