{"id":304957,"date":"2025-10-11T10:10:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-11T14:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/?p=304957"},"modified":"2025-10-08T10:15:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T14:15:15","slug":"lockheed-martin-launches-nomad-family-of-autonomous-drones","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/lockheed-martin-launches-nomad-family-of-autonomous-drones\/","title":{"rendered":"Lockheed Martin launches Nomad family of autonomous drones"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Sikorsky company, part of Lockheed Martin, <strong>has just officially unveiled the Nomad family of drones<\/strong>, a series of <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/mayman-aerospace-makes-history-with-the-autonomous-maiden-flight-of-the-razor-p100\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/vtol-razor-p100-completa-su-vuelo-inaugural\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unmanned vertical take-off (VTOL) drones that promise to<\/a>\n<\/strong> (VTOL) drones that promise to redefine military and civilian operations with their scalable design and advanced autonomy.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flexible design for demanding environments<\/h2>\n\n<p>The Nomad system merges the vertical agility of a helicopter with the range of a fixed-wing aircraft. <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/unmanned-aircraft-monitor-facilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/aviones-no-tripulados-vigilan-instalaciones\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fixed-wing aircraft<\/a>\n<\/strong>. Thanks to their twin-engine configuration, these aircraft can take off and land vertically, sustain stationary flight and <strong>travel at high speed without relying on runways<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>This structural versatility allows the design to be scaled up from a small Group 3 UAV to a model comparable in size to a Black Hawk. Thus, they are adapted to both light reconnaissance tasks and logistic missions in contested areas or maritime environments. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Operational autonomy powered by MATRIX<\/h2>\n\n<p>All Nomad models integrate MATRIX autonomy technology. <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/lockheedmartin.com\/en-us\/products\/sikorsky-matrix-technology.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/lockheedmartin.com\/en-us\/products\/sikorsky-matrix-technology.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MATRIX<\/a>\n<\/strong>technology, developed together with <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/create-liberty-lifter-operations-at-sea\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/crean-liberty-lifter-operaciones-en-el-mar\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DARPA<\/a>\n<\/strong>. This open system, already validated in real-world scenarios such as forest fires or supply transport, allows route planning, obstacle avoidance and fully autonomous mission execution. <\/p>\n\n<p>Smaller scale models employ <strong>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/ge-aerospace-and-beta-technologies-bet-on-hybrid-electric-flight\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/ge-aerospace-impulsa-vuelo-hibrido-electrico\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hybrid electric propulsion systems<\/a>\n<\/strong>while larger variants opt for conventional powertrains to achieve greater payload and range.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Progressive expansion of the program<\/h2>\n\n<p>Following a successful test in March 2025 of the Nomad 50 (3.1-meter wingspan), the Nomad 100, a Group 3 UAV with 5.5-meter wings, is currently under development and is scheduled for first flight in the coming months.
