Coast Guard is keeping up the pace of modernizing its maritime infrastructure with the award of a contract valued at nearly $11 million to Ocean Construction Services to begin reconstruction of Pier 1 at the shipyard located in Baltimore, Maryland.

Plans for the reconstruction of Pier 1

The project includes the extension of the wharf, replacement of deteriorated structures and the installation of reinforced moorings, new generation sea defenses and electrical capabilities to ship support. These improvements are essential to strengthen the structural strength of the facility and allow for the support of modern surface fleet units.

With more than a century of operation, the Coast Guard shipyard in Baltimore is the service’s only organic facility for shipbuilding, repair and refurbishment. This work is part of a major transformation initiative at the shipyard, considered the most important in its history. In addition, the rehabilitation of Pier 1 is expected to be substantially completed in 2027.

Under the Force Design 2028 program, the Coast Guard has established a Program Executive Office(PEO) to lead onshore infrastructure projects. This unit coordinates the planning, oversight and execution of work through regional engineering and logistics centers. In this case, the Cleveland Civil Engineering Unit is actively involved as part of the regional effort.

Source and photo: United States Coast Guard

The current work seeks to guarantee the continuity of these operations while other phases of the modernization plan are being executed.

[13026,13048

post-300057","noticias","type-noticias","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","categoria_noticias-energy","categoria_noticias-maritime
["GET
