{"id":288095,"date":"2025-08-16T11:05:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T15:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/?p=288095"},"modified":"2025-08-12T16:54:32","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T20:54:32","slug":"uk-issues-first-certification-for-remotely-operated-drone-ship","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/uk-issues-first-certification-for-remotely-operated-drone-ship\/","title":{"rendered":"UK issues first certification for remotely operated drone ship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>ACUA Ocean&#8217;s PIONEER vessel becomes the first unmanned surface vehicle (USV) certified under the UK Working Boats Code (WBC3), opening a new era for autonomous navigation.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>USV PIONEER WBC3 compliant<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Lloyd&#8217;s Register (LR), the international authority on ship classification, has awarded the first UK certification to a remotely operated, unmanned vessel, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mastermariners.org.au\/news-international\/6345-lloyds-register-becomes-first-certifying-authority-to-approve-unmanned-vessels-under-uk-workboat-code\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mastermariners.org.au\/news-international\/6345-lloyds-register-becomes-first-certifying-authority-to-approve-unmanned-vessels-under-uk-workboat-code\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">after meeting the requirements of Annex 2 of the WBC3 of the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).<\/a><\/strong> of the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).<\/p>\n\n<p>This regulatory achievement has been reached by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocean.tech\/_files\/ugd\/8d2a4b_92a13a56e42c4f7a9c73215b2cc269f1.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ocean.tech\/_files\/ugd\/8d2a4b_92a13a56e42c4f7a9c73215b2cc269f1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PIONEER<\/a><\/strong>a USV developed by ACUA Ocean using hydrogen fuel cell propulsion. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/modernize-ships-with-hydrogen-cells\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/modernizan-buques-con-celdas-de-hidrogeno\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hydrogen fuel cell propulsion.<\/a><\/strong>. It is a platform designed for extended surveillance, environmental monitoring and offshore inspection operations, with advanced autonomous navigation and remote control capabilities. <\/p>\n\n<p>PIONEER compliance allows these types of technological solutions to access real-world testing as part of the UK&#8217;s Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC) program.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Towards a cleaner and more autonomous fleet<\/h2>\n\n<p>ACUA Ocean plans to complete hydrogen-powered sea trials under the CMDC before moving forward with hybrid and electric versions.
