These thin layers of microorganisms operate under anaerobic conditions, capturing industrial gases and converting them into usable methane. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biotechnology to introduce high quality breakthroughs<\/h2>\n\n<p>Likewise, the team led by Dr. Lu Feng documented in five scientific studies how these systems exceed 96 % purity in the methane produced. The focus is on <strong>bioaugmentation<\/strong>, a technique that introduces specific <strong>methanogenic microbes<\/strong> to improve CO\u2082 conversion. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong> Biofilm reactors <\/strong>offer remarkable stability against compounds that typically inhibit methanogenesis, such as hydrogen sulfide and ammonia. In controlled tests, systems without biofilms lost up to 30 % methane under the presence of H\u2082S, while reactors with biofilms maintained gas quality even at elevated concentrations. <\/p>\n\n<p>The use of<strong> AnMBBR reactors <\/strong>also allowed the production of methane with high levels of ammonia, through the presence of <strong>Methanothermobacter<\/strong>, a microorganism with capabilities to harness hydrogen and CO\u2082 to generate fuel.<\/p>\n\n<p>Tests with synthesis gas open the door to the utilization of complex waste such as <strong>plastics <\/strong>and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/mitsubishi-power-50-mw-biomass-plant\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"197201\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">woody biomass<\/a><\/strong>.
