The team succeeded in producing a cheaper alternative to traditional Ti-6Al-4V, one of the most commonly used materials in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/additive-manufacturing-technologies\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/articulo\/analisis-tecnologias-de-manufactura-aditiva\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">additive manufacturing<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can a titanium alloy without vanadium be more efficient?<\/h2>\n\n<p>The new approach replaces increasingly expensive vanadium with more affordable alternative elements. In addition, the developed formulation has been designed to generate a <strong>more uniform equiaxial grain structure during printing<\/strong>, overcoming the common columnar pattern that tends to weaken certain areas of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/karl-jauvin-presents-cmqs-progress-in-metal-3d-printing\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/cmq-presenta-avances-impresion-3d-de-metales\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">printed metal<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>Thanks to this new design framework, as detailed in a recent publication in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-025-60162-0\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-025-60162-0\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nature Communications<\/a><\/strong>the researchers <strong>were able to reduce the alloy&#8217;s production cost by 29%<\/strong>, while maintaining superior strength and ductility over conventional alloys. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/impact-of-steel-alloy-types\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/articulo\/impacto-tipos-de-aleaciones-de-acero\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">conventional alloys used in 3D<\/a><\/strong> used in 3D printing. Following interviews with stakeholders in the aerospace, automotive and medical technology industries, the team <strong>identified a clear demand for new alloys<\/strong> with substantial cost and performance advantages. <\/p>\n\n<p>The published methodology provides predictive criteria for the design of new alloys with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/3d-printing-method-manufactures-objects\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/metodo-de-impresion-3d-fabrica-objetos\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3D printing<\/a><\/strong>.
