The largest solar park in Central America and the Caribbean is now operational. Cotoper\u00ed Solar, developed by Acciona Energ\u00eda in the province of La Romana, has started supplying renewable energy<\/a><\/strong> to the Dominican electricity grid, marking a key step in the country’s energy transition. <\/p>\n\n

With an installed capacity of 162.6 megawatts peak (MWp), the complex is composed of three photovoltaic plants<\/a><\/strong> plants, which together will generate around 286 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year<\/strong>. This production is equivalent to covering the electricity demand of approximately 166,000 households and will prevent the emission of more than 210,000 tons of CO\u2082, similar to planting 5.5 million trees. <\/p>\n\n

Cotoper\u00ed Solar’s social and economic impact<\/h2>\n\n

The project, led by Acciona Energ\u00eda with a 51% stake, is also backed by Cotosolar Holding, an alliance that includes JMMB Funds’ Sustainable Energy Fund and Grupo Pais, among other investors.<\/p>\n\n

During its construction phase, Cotoper\u00ed Solar generated more than 600 direct and indirect jobs<\/strong>, contributing to local economic development. In addition, Acciona Energ\u00eda continues to expand its presence in the country with other initiatives such as the Pedro Corto solar plant (82.69 MWp) and the already operational Calabaza I (58 MWp). <\/p>\n\n

In May, the Ministry of Energy and Mines visited Cotoper\u00ed Solar’s visited the facilities of Cotoper\u00ed Solar<\/a><\/strong> as part of a collaboration agreement with Acciona Energ\u00eda and the acciona.org Foundation to promote universal access to modern and safe energy<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n
