As part of its strategy to reduce emissions in offshore operations offshore operations<\/a><\/strong>MODEC and Eld Energy are moving forward with the pilot installation of a solid oxide generator (SOFC) on an FPSO.<\/p>\n\n

In February 2025, MODEC awarded Eld Energy a feasibility study that laid the groundwork for this offshore technology. After laboratory tests with simulated gas and heavy hydrocarbon mixtures, they decided to move forward to Phase 2. <\/p>\n\n

Fabrication and installation of the solid oxide generator<\/h2>\n\n

Eld Energy will manufacture the 40 kW SOFC unit<\/a><\/strong> unit in Bergen, Norway, with installation scheduled for 2026. The project could also open up opportunities to apply SOFC to more offshore infrastructure, driving cleaner and more resilient operations in the face of environmental challenges.<\/p>\n\n
