{"id":270036,"date":"2025-06-22T15:20:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-22T19:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/?p=270036"},"modified":"2025-06-22T14:13:37","modified_gmt":"2025-06-22T18:13:37","slug":"maersk-commissions-methanol-powered-container-ship","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/maersk-commissions-methanol-powered-container-ship\/","title":{"rendered":"Maersk commissions methanol-powered container ship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A new generation of high-capacity containerships begins to sail the seas with the debut of the <em>Berlin M\u00e6rsk<\/em>, the first in a series of six 17,480 TEU vessels equipped with dual methanol propulsion.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The christening of the container ship Berlin M\u00e6rsk<\/h2>\n\n<p>The vessel was christened on June 18 at the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea, and represents a decisive step in Maersk&#8217;s fleet renewal strategy aimed at energy efficiency and emissions reduction.<\/p>\n\n<p>The <em>Berlin M\u00e6rsk<\/em> has an extended beam compared to the previous class, allowing it to carry more containers than its predecessors. This feature makes it the largest dual-fuel vessel in Maersk&#8217;s fleet to date. <\/p>\n\n<p>Its design is a direct evolution of the <em>Ane M\u00e6rsk<\/em> class, which had already introduced significant improvements in sustainable navigation. With this new series, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/alexandra-maersk-the-new-methanol-ship\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"194905\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maersk<\/a><\/strong> is committed to higher capacity without compromising environmental efficiency. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Entry into service and key routes<\/h2>\n\n<p>The <em>Berlin M\u00e6rsk<\/em> is scheduled to enter service on July 7 with its first call in Shanghai. It will operate on the AE3 service, which links East Asia with Northern Europe, one of the most strategic routes for international trade. <\/p>\n\n<p>All container ships of this class will carry the Danish flag and will be delivered during 2025. Construction is being carried out by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/hd-hyundai-launches-dual-ammonia-engine\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"195004\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hyundai Heavy Industries<\/a><\/strong>consolidating its strategic alliance with Maersk in alternative propulsion technologies. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Commitment to energy transition<\/h2>\n\n<p>Maersk maintains its goal of <strong>achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040<\/strong>. An essential part of this goal is the incorporation of vessels powered by low-carbon fuels, such as methanol, which can reduce emissions by up to 65% over their life cycle. <\/p>\n\n<p>The company already has more than a dozen methanol-powered vessels and has other orders in the pipeline, including 9,000, 16,000 and 17,000 TEU units.
