This infrastructure will allow the storage of up to 264 MWh of solar energy generated by the Capricornio Solar Plant, operating with an output of 48 MW during a 5-hour continuous cycle. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BESS Capricorn stores solar power for thousands of homes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>BESS Capricornio <strong>consists of 96 battery containers<\/strong> and represents a key solution for strengthening the flexibility of the national electricity system. With this commissioning, ENGIE can supply approximately 11,500 homes with solar energy. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/goldi-solar-announces-first-ai-powered-solar-manufacturing-plant\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/planta-de-fabricacion-de-energia-solar-ia\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stored solar energy<\/a><\/strong> stored energy, while avoiding the annual emission of around 25,833 tons of CO\u2082. According to the company, this is equivalent to taking some 8,800 conventional vehicles off the road.  <\/p>\n\n<p>This new asset adds to the projects already activated by the company during 2025, such as BESS Tamaya and the Kallpa Wind Farm. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/engie-chile_withengie-engiechile-transiciaejnenergaeztica-activity-7336414391367524353-rzSD?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAEKYikgBjygh5GpRtttit6tTS7TQvMcSdSs\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/engie-chile_withengie-engiechile-transiciaejnenergaeztica-activity-7336414391367524353-rzSD?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAEKYikgBjygh5GpRtttit6tTS7TQvMcSdSs\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BESS Capricornio<\/a><\/strong> is the third system put into operation this year and consolidates a total storage capacity of 263 MW for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/engie-starts-its-first-solar-project-with-batteries-in-the-metropolitan-region\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/engie-construye-planta-solar-con-baterias\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ENGIE in Chile<\/a><\/strong>. The company&#8217;s goal is to reach 3.5 GW of installed capacity by 2027, with more than 60% based on renewables and storage. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ENGIE strengthens leadership in energy storage<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Juan Villavicencio, Director of Renewable Energies and Batteries at ENGIE Chile, highlighted that the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/spherical-energy-storage-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/sistema-almacenamiento-de-energia-esferico\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">storage systems such as Capricornio<\/a><\/strong> systems such as Capricornio are essential to facilitate greater integration of renewable sources. Globally, the ENGIE Group <strong>already has 5 GW of capacity in operation or under construction<\/strong>, positioning itself as one of the world leaders in this technology. <\/p>\n\n<p>The project <strong>required an investment of close to US$73 million <\/strong>and is part of ENGIE&#8217;s strategy to strengthen its presence in northern Chile.
