As of July 1, 2024, international regulations mandate that all new commercial vessels comply with cybersecurity standards. VARD, backed by the Fincantieri group, has taken the lead by delivering two ships with cyber notation<\/strong>: the \u201cGrampian Kestrel<\/a><\/strong>\u201d for North Star and the \u201cPurus Chinook<\/a><\/strong>\u201d for Purus. <\/p>\n\n

Integration from design<\/h2>\n\n

Both vessels are Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs), designed for offshore operations<\/a><\/strong>. They are built under the new IMO requirements, with integrated SeaQ systems that ensure resilience against digital threats. Cyber protection is part of the hull and mind of the vessel, from drawings to delivery. <\/p>\n\n

The construction was the result of joint work between VARD, North Star, Purus and the classification societies. This collaborative model facilitates the early adoption of the new requirements and consolidates VARD as a reference in the technological transition of the shipbuilding industry. <\/p>\n\n

The SeaQ systems<\/a><\/strong> systems from Vard Electro play an essential role. They encompass automation, energy management and cyber surveillance. This integrated digital infrastructure ensures safer and more efficient maritime<\/a><\/strong> more secure and efficient maritime operations, with a proactive approach to potential cyber-attacks. <\/p>\n\n

With this delivery, VARD and Fincantieri consolidate their leadership in advanced shipbuilding<\/a><\/strong>. VARD CEO Cathrine Kristiseter Marti stressed that this step reinforces the group’s commitment to innovation and regulatory compliance, laying the foundation for a cyber-resilient global fleet. <\/p>\n\n
