The boat was developed to compete in this year&#8217;s Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Look: A ship powered by liquid hydrogen<\/h2>\n\n<p>The initiative is the brainchild of a team of 25 students who make up the <strong>Hydromotion group<\/strong>, determined to demonstrate that technological innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. According to Olivier Poelman, leader of the project, if a university group manages to successfully implement this energy solution, companies should also be able to do so. <\/p>\n\n<p>The use of hydrogen as a marine fuel is not new, but its implementation faces technical and economic barriers. The production of hydrogen largely determines its environmental impact. <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/students-from-delft-crossing-the-north-sea\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"171398\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Hydromotion<\/strong><\/a> is committed to green hydrogen, although it recognizes that much of the available infrastructure still relies on other fuel sources. <\/p>\n\n<p>The <strong>Mira boat<\/strong> will participate in the international competition, and seeks to draw the industry&#8217;s attention to clean maritime mobility. This prototype integrates a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/boat-electrical-candela-c-8-design-award\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"160373\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">foiling system<\/a><\/strong> system that reduces contact with water, improving efficiency and speed. <\/p>\n\n<p>Examples such as <strong>Energy Observer<\/strong> &#8216;s <strong>EO2 project<\/strong> or <strong>Louis Dreyfus Armateurs<\/strong> &#8216; recent <strong>hybrid SOV vessel<\/strong> reveal that the industry is exploring similar technologies.
