Vertical Aerospace is developing a hybrid-electric variant of its VX4 aircraft<\/a><\/strong>, with the capacity to achieve up to 1,600 kilometers of range. This new approach will enable it to serve sectors that require greater range and payload, such as defense, heavy logistics and long-range medical transport. <\/p>\n\n

Key characteristics of the hybrid-electric VTOL<\/h2>\n\n

The new VTOL can be configured to carry up to 1,100 kg of payload, while maintaining the advantages of reduced noise and low thermal signatures. These capabilities make the model an attractive option for tactical missions or sensitive urban environments. In addition, it can operate manned, remotely or autonomously thanks to its integrated system with Honeywell technology. <\/p>\n\n

The VTOL hybrid<\/a><\/strong> inherits the architecture of the VX4 100% electric model and the Flightpath 2030 plan<\/a><\/strong>. With this extension, Vertical seeks to meet new demands for advanced air mobility<\/strong> without the need for structural redesign. The integration of hybrid propulsion is supported by the wide and flexible fuselage of the VX4. <\/p>\n\n

Development from Vertical’s energy center<\/h2>\n\n

The second-generation hybrid propulsion system<\/a><\/strong> propulsion system has been under development for 18 months at the Vertical Energy Center. Flight testing is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026<\/strong>, supported by laboratory tests that have verified its architecture and control algorithms. <\/p>\n\n

Being the only European company with the capacity to scale up eVTOL solutions<\/a><\/strong>Vertical is seeking to position itself for new regional defense budgets. It is currently in talks with governments and industry players to include its aircraft in surveillance, rescue or rapid deployment operations. <\/p>\n\n
