The “Green Future<\/em>“, NYK Group <\/strong>‘s first bulk carrier powered by a dual fuel system using methanol and fuel oil, was officially delivered. The ceremony took place at Tsuneishi Shipbuilding<\/strong> ‘s facilities in Japan, and was attended by Yuko Tsutsui, NYK’s executive director of sustainability, who officiated the christening of the vessel. <\/p>\n\n

Delivery of the first methanol-powered bulk carrier<\/h2>\n\n

The “Green Future<\/em>” was built on behalf of Kambara Kisen<\/strong> and will operate under charter from NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers<\/strong>. With a length of almost 200 meters, a beam of 32.25 meters and a capacity of approximately 81,500 m\u00b3, this vessel represents a leap in the shipping group’s environmental commitment. It is designed to run on marine methanol<\/strong>, an alternative fuel that minimizes greenhouse gases. minimizes greenhouse gas emissions.<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

In addition to using methanol as fuel, the design contemplates the use of biomethanol<\/strong> and e-methanol<\/strong>, which can be produced from green hydrogen and captured CO\u2082. This makes the Green Future vessel<\/strong>, a model for energy transition within the dry bulk sector. <\/p>\n\n

This project reflects the synergy between three players in the Japanese shipbuilding industry: NYK Group<\/strong><\/strong>Kambara Kisen<\/strong> and Tsuneishi Shipbuilding<\/strong>. The collaboration aims to strengthen the country’s technological competitiveness and promote real solutions towards cleaner transportation. <\/p>\n\n
