Hyundai Motor Company<\/strong> unveiled at ACT Expo 2025<\/strong> its latest bet on sustainable mobility: the XCIENT Fuel Cell Class 8 truck<\/strong>, a new model that represents a firm step towards the decarbonization of commercial transportation in North America.<\/p>\n\n

XCIENT truck technology<\/h2>\n\n

During the event held in Anaheim, California, Hyundai <\/em>made it clear that it is looking to consolidate its presence in hydrogen-powered solutions through its HTWO<\/strong> brand. The XCIENT truck<\/em> is equipped with a fuel cell system<\/a><\/strong>180 kW<\/strong> fuel cell system, consisting of two 90 kW cells, a 72 kWh battery and a 350 kW electric motor, which allows it to achieve up to 450 miles of range. In addition, it integrates ten hydrogen tanks with a capacity of 68 kg. <\/p>\n\n

The version presented at the show has been specially adapted for North American conditions and needs, including a Class 8 tractor<\/strong> variant with a gross combination weight of up to 82,000 pounds. This vehicle has been rigorously tested since 2021 and its capabilities are backed by logistics operators already using it in real-world conditions. <\/p>\n\n

The truck’s interior has been revamped with a 12.3-inch digital display for the instrument panel and a touch screen of the same size for the infotainment system<\/strong>, complemented by ergonomic physical buttons. Safety has also been a priority, integrating ADAS systems<\/strong> such as collision warning, intelligent cruise control and blind spot monitoring. <\/p>\n\n

In collaboration with the NorCAL ZERO Project<\/strong>, Hyundai<\/a><\/strong> operates 30 units of the XCIENT Fuel Cell at the ports of Oakland and Richmond, contributing to zero-emission logistics. Since September 2023, these trucks have traveled more than 725,000 kilometers. In addition, 21 additional units are in use at the HMGMA plant<\/strong> as part of the HTWO Logistics<\/strong> project. <\/p>\n\n

Finally, the company announced the development of HTWO Energy Savannah<\/strong>, a hydrogen refueling<\/em> and electric refueling<\/em> station that will begin operations in late 2025. This development seeks to complement the hydrogen ecosystem that Hyundai is building around the Georgia Metaplant <\/strong>, strengthening its commitment to sustainable commercial mobility. <\/p>\n\n
