Greece’s Ministry of Environment and Energy has signed the ministerial decision activating an international tender to award exploration and possible exploitation rights for hydrocarbons<\/strong> in four offshore areas in the Mediterranean: two located south of the Peloponnese and two off the southern coast of Crete.<\/p>\n\n

This call will be published for a period of 90 days in the Official Journal of the European Union<\/strong>. The procedure will allow companies from all over the world to submit their bids to operate in the blocks called “A2”, “South Peloponnese”, “South Crete 1” and “South Crete 2”. The announcement was made by Minister Stavros Papastavrou, who ratified the government’s commitment to the energy calendar. <\/p>\n\n

The US firm Chevron Balkans Exploration BV has already expressed its interest in operating one of the Peloponnese zones and two areas off Crete. For its part, the local company HELLENiQ Upstream Kyparissiakos Gulf S.A., a subsidiary of Helleniq Energy, submitted a proposal for the “A2” area. According to the iefimerida web portal<\/a><\/strong>both expressions of interest were formally accepted by EDEYEP S.A.<\/strong>, the state-owned company in charge of the management of energy resources<\/a><\/strong> resources of the country. <\/p>\n\n
