The Faroe Islands Space Program, a strategic alliance between Sweden’s Minesto, SKF and the energy company SEV aims to harness tidal energy through an underwater kite<\/strong> to achieve a 100% renewable power generation<\/a><\/strong> 100% renewable electricity generation by 2030.<\/p>\n\n

The underwater kite that generates electricity<\/h2>\n\n

At the heart of the program is Luna 12, a 1.2 MW underwater kite designed to capture energy from tidal currents<\/strong>. This technology is part of the Dragon Class<\/a><\/strong> line and is the first of its kind to be connected to an electrical grid. <\/p>\n\n

Capable of supplying at least 200 homes per year, Luna 12 moves underwater in figure-eight trajectories, multiplying the speed of the current and increasing the energy generated.<\/p>\n\n

Its technologies enable Luna 12 to operate with minimal friction and maximum durability at 60 meters depth, facing currents of up to 16 knots.
