Located in Napa County, California, Energy Vault’s new Calistoga Resiliency Center (CRC) is designed to operate independently during scheduled safety outages. The microgrid will feature lithium-ion batteries<\/a><\/strong> and green hydrogen fuel cells<\/a><\/strong> capable of delivering up to 8.5 MW for 48 continuous hours. <\/p>\n\n

This capacity will allow the entire community to remain supplied when PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric) must shut off power due to a fire risk. The CRC will store energy for several days prior to the shutdown to respond immediately in isolation situations. <\/p>\n\n

The array will be managed by VaultOS\u2122<\/a><\/strong> , Energy Vault’s proprietary software, which coordinates operations between the B-VAULT\u2122 batteries and H-VAULT\u2122<\/a><\/strong> hydrogen units. This architecture eliminates reliance on diesel generators<\/a><\/strong> , aligning with California renewable energy standards. <\/p>\n\n

Each component was designed to precisely meet the demands of a local microgrid, including black start and grid balancing, essential functions in Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events.<\/p>\n\n

The Calistoga Resiliency Center responds to a real crisis<\/h2>\n\n

The project emerged as a direct response to the increasing frequency of wildfires<\/a><\/strong> . In this context, Calistoga represents a replicable pilot: vulnerable communities can ensure access to electricity without relying on the central grid or emitting polluting gases. <\/p>\n\n

With an investment of $28 million<\/a><\/strong> , the plant will enter commercial operation during the second quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n\n

This won’t be the only deployment of the technology. The company has already confirmed agreements for new installations in Texas, strengthening a portfolio that seeks to bring energy stability to at-risk regions. <\/p>\n\n
