The microgrid will feature <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/scientists-develop-lithium-ion-batteries-capable-of-operating-in-extreme-weather-conditions\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"43465\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lithium-ion batteries<\/a><\/strong> and green <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/install-hydrogen-fuel-batteries\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"137627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hydrogen fuel cells<\/a><\/strong> capable of delivering up to 8.5 MW for 48 continuous hours. <\/p>\n\n<p>This capacity will allow the entire community to remain supplied when PG&amp;E (Pacific Gas and Electric) must shut off power due to a fire risk. The CRC will store energy for several days prior to the shutdown to respond immediately in isolation situations. <\/p>\n\n<p>The array will be managed by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.energyvault.com\/products\/vault-os-energy-management-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VaultOS\u2122<\/a><\/strong> , Energy Vault&#8217;s proprietary software, which coordinates operations between the B-VAULT\u2122 batteries and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.energyvault.com\/products\/h-vault-hydrogen-energy-storage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">H-VAULT\u2122<\/a><\/strong> hydrogen units. Source: Energy Vault <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Each component was designed to precisely meet the demands of a local microgrid, including black start and grid balancing, essential functions in Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Calistoga Resiliency Center responds to a real crisis<\/h2>\n\n<p>The project emerged as a direct response to the increasing frequency of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/firedome-the-autonomous-system-to-fight-forest-fires\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"220535\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wildfires<\/a><\/strong> . In this context, Calistoga represents a replicable pilot: vulnerable communities can ensure access to electricity without relying on the central grid or emitting polluting gases. <\/p>\n\n<p>With an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ecoinventos.com\/centro-de-resiliencia-de-calistoga-primera-microrred-hibrida-almacenamiento-energia-hidrogeno-verde-ultra-larga-duracion-del-mundo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">investment of $28 million<\/a><\/strong> , the plant will enter commercial operation during the second quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n\n<p>This won&#8217;t be the only deployment of the technology.
