After three decades of collaborative work, the organizations have achieved substantial improvements in the combustion technology of the Pearl engine family, <strong>with a particular focus on reducing soot<\/strong> emissions during operation. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Optimized combustion reduces soot emissions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Thanks to funding from the LuFo program, promoted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the DLR has implemented advanced tests <strong>to better understand the soot formation process<\/strong> . Using laser techniques and endoscopic tools, researchers analyzed both fuel injection and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/engineering-reduction-gas-emissions\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"73971\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gas and particle emissions<\/a><\/strong> . <\/p>\n\n<p>Rolls-Royce validated its computational models under realistic conditions using the PRECISE-UNS code, while DLR developed and fine-tuned its own simulation system, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dlr.de\/de\/vt\/forschung-transfer\/themen\/software-entwicklung\/thetacom-numerische-stroemungs-und-verbrennungssimulation\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.dlr.de\/de\/vt\/forschung-transfer\/themen\/software-entwicklung\/thetacom-numerische-stroemungs-und-verbrennungssimulation\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ThetaCOM<\/a><\/strong> . These tools make it possible to predict how small variations in combustion affect particulate generation, a critical step in designing <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/diesel-engines-operation-and-applications\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"235177\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cleaner engines<\/a><\/strong> . <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sustainable fuels and next-generation atomization<\/h2>\n\n<p>The work doesn&#8217;t stop there. The institutions are already collaborating on new projects focused on evaluating soot behavior when using <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/enilive-starts-saf-production-in-gela-for-sustainable-aviation\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"223688\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sustainable aviation fuels<\/a><\/strong> (SAF).
