South Korean shipping major HMM<\/strong> has completed methanol bunkering<\/strong> for its first methanol-powered container vessel, HMM Green<\/em> , at the Port of Shanghai, where 2,900 tonnes of ISCC-EU certified green methanol were delivered to the 9,000 TEU container vessel while simultaneously handling container operations.<\/p>\n\n

The bunkering operation follows HMM<\/strong> ‘s memorandum of understanding ( MoU<\/em> ) with Shanghai International Port Group<\/strong> ( SIPG<\/em> ), the operator of all public terminals at the Port of Shanghai, to collaborate on the supply of clean marine fuel, specifically focusing on methanol and LNG bunkering.<\/p>\n\n

The new vessel is part of the fleet of nine vessels ordered from HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries<\/a><\/strong> and HJ Shipbuilding & Construction<\/strong> in February 2023. The shipping company is expected to gradually receive the remaining eight vessels next year, in line with its fleet expansion plan. <\/p>\n\n

The HMM Green vessel<\/strong> will be deployed in HMM’s service in Far East Asia, India, and the Mediterranean Sea ( FIM<\/em> ). The company also plans to acquire around 70 green vessels by 2030 and establish a carbon-neutral ecosystem across all shipping segments by 2045. <\/p>\n\n
