The Bhumibol Dam<\/strong> 1 floating solar hybrid hydroelectric project, located in Tak Province, Thailand, is part of an initiative to move towards carbon neutrality in the country. The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand<\/strong> ( EGAT<\/em> ) has opened the bidding documents for this project, which aims to generate 158 MWac of clean energy by installing floating solar panels on the dam’s reservoir. <\/p>\n\n

The hybrid solar hydroelectric project in Tak<\/h2>\n\n

Bidding documents for the Floating Solar Project 1<\/em> will be open until April 18, 2025, with sealed bids opening on July 14, 2025. This floating solar project falls under Thailand\u2019s Energy Development Plan 2018-2037<\/strong> , with the projection of developing more floating solar projects<\/a><\/strong> on dams nationwide, reaching a total capacity of 2,725 MW by 2030. <\/p>\n\n

The installation of solar panels on the dam’s reservoir<\/strong> will provide clean energy while optimizing existing hydroelectric resources, respecting the environment, and promoting sustainability. Furthermore, the project aligns with EGAT’s vision<\/strong> of promoting the use of renewable energy and supporting Thailand’s commitments to combat climate change, making it a leader in the transition to a cleaner energy mix. <\/p>\n\n

Mr. Thidade Eiamsai, Deputy Governor of Power Plant and Renewable Energy Development at EGAT<\/strong> , underscored the importance of this project in meeting the country’s climate goals, highlighting that the initiative aims to mitigate environmental impact while meeting Thailand’s growing electricity needs.<\/p>\n\n
