V\u00e5r Energi has successfully started towing the Jotun floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel from the Worley Rosenberg shipyard in Stavanger to the Balder oil field in the North Sea<\/a><\/strong> . This step is part of an ambitious project to increase<\/a> oil<\/a> production<\/a><\/strong> in the area and extend the life of the Balder field. <\/p>\n\n

The Balder X Project<\/h2>\n\n

This new project<\/a><\/strong> at V\u00e5r Energi’s operations includes the installation of the Jotun FPSO, which is expected to significantly increase production at the Balder field. At its peak, the floating unit will contribute 80,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboe\/d)<\/strong> , nearly quadrupling current production. <\/p>\n\n

Nick Walker, CEO of V\u00e5r Energi, has highlighted that the Balder X project is fundamental to the company’s growth plans and projects that production in the region will continue to grow over the coming decades, with the aim of extending the field’s life to 2045<\/a><\/strong> and beyond.<\/p>\n\n

Jotun FPSO testing<\/h2>\n\n

The Jotun FPSO, having completed several tilting trials at the shipyard, is now heading to sea for coastal trials and anchor installation. It will then be towed to the Balder field, where it will be connected to the subsea production systems. Production is expected to begin in late Q2 2025, with a ramp-up phase until full production is reached. <\/p>\n\n

The project promises a significant increase in production and will open up new opportunities to optimize infrastructure in the region, with plans to electrify and decommission aging platforms<\/a><\/strong> to reduce costs and emissions.<\/p>\n\n
