This project marks a step forward in the transition to a more sustainable economy and reinforces the state&#8217;s commitment to decarbonization. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Boosting green hydrogen in Tasmania<\/h2>\n\n<p>Located at BOC Australia&#8217;s Lutana site, the facility features a 700 kW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer, one of the largest in Australia. With a <strong>production capacity of up to 262 kg of renewable hydrogen per day<\/strong> , this resource will be used in industrial and transportation applications, such as passenger ferry propulsion. <\/p>\n\n<p>Blue Economy CRC Executive Director Dr. John Whittington highlighted that this initiative boosts commercial hydrogen production and also encourages research and training in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/renewable-energy-in-energy-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"126943\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">clean energy<\/a><\/strong> .  <\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>We want to explore how hydrogen can be integrated into our energy system and support Australia&#8217;s blue economy.<\/p>\n<cite>He explained.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Innovative technology for an emission-free future<\/h2>\n\n<p>The <strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blueeconomycrc.com.au\/hydrogen-facility\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/blueeconomycrc.com.au\/hydrogen-facility\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hydrogen Production and Research Facility<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> operates on a direct current (DC) hydrogen microgrid, enabling simulation of various <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/articulo\/from-the-sun-and-the-wind-exploring-the-potential-of-renewable-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"articulo\" data-id=\"84581\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">renewable energy usage<\/a><\/strong> scenarios, such as solar and wind. Source: Blue Economy <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>According to Tasmania&#8217;s Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, this project reinforces the government&#8217;s strategy to <strong>achieve 200% renewable electricity generation by 2040<\/strong> .  <\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>It is a major step forward in the application of hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels, contributing to the decarbonization of transport and industry.<\/p>\n<cite>He pointed out.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collaboration between industry, government and academia<\/h2>\n\n<p>The development of this facility has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of multiple stakeholders, including BOC Australia, Pitt &amp; Sherry, Optimal Group, the University of Tasmania, and the Tasmanian Government.
