TotalEnergies has started commissioning its BioNorrois biogas plant<\/strong> , its eighth biomethane production<\/a><\/strong> unit in France, located in Fontaine-le-Dun, Normandy. This plant will be capable of injecting 153 GWh of renewable gas per year into the natural gas grid operated by GRTgaz, representing the average annual energy consumption of more than 30,000 households. <\/p>\n\n

A strategic alliance with Cristal Union<\/h2>\n\n

In collaboration with Cristal Union, a leading cooperative group in the agri-food industry, TotalEnergies has succeeded in consolidating this initiative. Cristal Union, which supplies beet pulp from its adjacent plant, will supply up to 80% of the 185,000 tonnes of organic materials needed for biogas production. <\/p>\n\n

In addition, the 150,000 tons of digestate generated annually by the plant will be used to produce sustainable fertilizers, a measure that will help local farmers reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and preserve the environment.<\/p>\n\n

Environmental and social benefits<\/h2>\n\n

The plant not only contributes to the generation of renewable energy, but also has a significant impact on reducing CO2<\/sub> emissions. It is estimated that BioNorrois’ operation will avoid the emission of more than 30,000 tons of CO2<\/sub> annually, thanks to its anaerobic digestion process, an example of a circular economy that takes advantage of organic waste to generate clean energy<\/a><\/strong> . <\/p>\n\n

The plant is being developed in a context of close collaboration with more than 130 local farmers and agri-food companies<\/strong> , which ensures that the project is adapted to the needs and particularities of the territory. BioNorrois<\/a><\/strong> is thus a technological breakthrough and a response to local challenges in terms of sustainability and economy. <\/p>\n\n

TotalEnergies and its biogas plant in France<\/h2>\n\n

This project represents another important step towards TotalEnergies\u2019 objective of increasing its biogas production<\/a><\/strong> capacity to over 800 GWh in France. On its way to a capacity of 10 TWh of biomethane per year by 2030<\/strong> , the company reaffirms its commitment to the energy transition and the promotion of a low-carbon economy. The partnership with Cristal Union optimises local resources and highlights the potential of renewable energy in the region. <\/p>\n\n
