Chinese oil company CNOOC Limited has started production at the Bozhong 26-6 oilfield, considered the world’s largest metamorphic oilfield.<\/strong> Located in the Bohai Sea, this project has a water depth of approximately 20 meters and is designed to reach a maximum production of 22,300 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2025<\/strong> .<\/p>\n\n

The world’s largest metamorphic oil field<\/h2>\n\n

The Bozhong 26-6 oilfield is an example of advanced engineering in hydrocarbon exploration<\/a><\/strong> . With over 200 million m3<\/sup> of proven oil and gas, its development has been remarkably rapid, moving from discovery to production in just three years. This agility is due to the application of standardized engineering methodologies. <\/p>\n\n

To operate this oil field<\/a><\/strong> , a central processing platform and an unmanned wellhead platform have been deployed, in addition to drilling 33 development wells, including 22 production wells and 10 gas injection wells. The company has highlighted that the quality of the crude oil extracted is light, which makes it more efficient for refining. <\/p>\n\n

Carbon capture and reduction technology<\/h2>\n\n

One of the most innovative aspects of the project is its contribution to reducing carbon emissions. As part of the Carbon Capture, Use and Storage (CCUS) strategy, CNOOC will reinject the carbon dioxide<\/a><\/strong> (CO\u2082) generated in the extraction process into the same geological formation, with a target of storing 1.5 million tonnes of CO\u2082 over the life of the deposit<\/strong> . <\/p>\n\n

The start of operations at Bozhong 26-6 strengthens China’s position in offshore hydrocarbon production and enhances the country’s energy security. According to CNOOC Limited Chairman Yan Hongtao, this development marks a new stage for the company in developing complex, deep-sea oil and gas fields. <\/p>\n\n
