The world’s first full-size autonomous electric bus<\/strong> , developed by Fusion Processing<\/strong> and its CAVstar<\/strong> automated driving system, is part of the Connector<\/strong> project, driven by the Greater Cambridge Partnership<\/strong> and funded by Innovate UK<\/strong> , to provide intercity routes on the streets of Cambridge. <\/p>\n\n

Fusion Processing’s first autonomous electric bus<\/h2>\n\n

The Alexander Dennis Enviro100AEV<\/strong> bus has been designed to improve the efficiency of public transport by using cutting-edge autonomous technology<\/a><\/strong> . Its CAVstar system<\/strong> allows it to operate without a driver in real urban locations, minimising energy consumption and reducing polluting emissions. <\/p>\n\n

The vehicle is currently undergoing track testing to optimise its performance and ensure the highest safety standards. Once this stage is complete, it will be transported to Cambridge where safety drivers will be trained prior to the start of operations at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus<\/strong> . <\/p>\n\n

The development of this autonomous bus is the result of a collaboration between Fusion Processing, Alexander Dennis, IPG Automotive, dRISK and Gamma Energy<\/strong> . According to Jim Hutchinson<\/strong> , CEO of Fusion Processing, this advancement demonstrates the potential of autonomous technology to improve urban mobility in a safe and efficient manner. <\/p>\n\n

Elisa Meschini, chair of the Greater Cambridge Partnership executive board, said that this project positions Cambridge as a benchmark in autonomous transport, promoting sustainable solutions for the future of urban mobility. With the support of the UK Government’s Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles<\/strong> ( CCAV<\/em> ), the Connector project<\/strong> seeks to establish an efficient and sustainable transport model. <\/p>\n\n

This autonomous bus is a landmark event in the evolution of public transport, paving the way for the integration of smart vehicles in cities and the transition towards a greener and more efficient mobility system.<\/p>\n\n
