The integrated in-engine <strong>selective catalytic reduction<\/strong> ( <em>iSCR<\/em> ) solution was successfully tested at <strong>Mitsui E&amp;S DU<\/strong> ( <em>MESDU<\/em> <strong>)<\/strong> factory in Aioi, Japan, on engines to be used on bulk carriers built at a Japanese shipyard. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The innovative NOx reduction solution<\/h2>\n\n<p>After more than two years of operation with prototype versions, the <strong>iSCR technology<\/strong> incorporates improvements in production and material costs, a heating unit to operate with heavy fuel oil and design optimization to reduce ammonia emissions in the exhausts. With this, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/wingd-introduces-lpg-preset-option\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"205137\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WinGD<\/a><\/strong> seeks to strengthen compliance with <strong>IMO Tier III regulations<\/strong> while providing greater flexibility in the design and configuration of the engine room. <\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>WinGD\u2019s unique engine-based NOx reduction solution ensures compliance with IMO Tier III while providing operators with greater flexibility in engine room configuration and ship layout. This new version further reduces the cost impact of NOx reduction and improves treatment efficiency with existing and emerging fuels. <\/p>\n<cite>Peter Kr\u00e4henb\u00fchl, Vice President of the WinGD Product Center.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Unlike other NOx reduction systems located outside the engine, <strong>iSCR technology<\/strong> optimises the use of onboard space, reducing piping requirements and facilitating testing and commissioning. The system allows the engine to be tested alongside emissions control prior to installation on the vessel, speeding up implementation. Following the recent certification test, held on 16 January, representatives from eight leading classification societies including <strong>ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, KR, LR, ClassNK and RINA<\/strong> participated.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Initially, the <strong>iSCR<\/strong> solution will be available on 52- and 62-cylinder engines, including short-stroke variants and configurations compatible with fuel oil, ammonia and methanol.
