{"id":224642,"date":"2025-01-29T09:32:32","date_gmt":"2025-01-29T13:32:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/balearia-will-build-two-new-electric-ferries-for-the-tarifa-tangier-ville-route\/"},"modified":"2025-01-29T10:26:59","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T14:26:59","slug":"balearia-will-build-two-new-electric-ferries-for-the-tarifa-tangier-ville-route","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/balearia-will-build-two-new-electric-ferries-for-the-tarifa-tangier-ville-route\/","title":{"rendered":"Bale\u00e0ria will build two new electric ferries for the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>Bale\u00e0ria<\/strong> company has announced the construction of two innovative &#8221; <em>electric fast ferries<\/em> &#8221; that will operate on the Tarifa-Tangier Ville route, becoming the first intercontinental green corridor between Spain and Morocco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Electric ferries and zero-emission maritime transport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The new ships will be built by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/announces-ferry-hybrid-high-speed-hybrid\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"167514\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Astilleros Armon<\/a><\/strong> in Gij\u00f3n, and will have an electrical power of 16 MW, equipped with four electric propellers powered by batteries with a capacity of 11,500 kWh. This will allow them to make the entire 18-nautical mile crossing between Spain and Morocco without CO\u2082 emissions, noise or vibrations, guaranteeing silent and ecological navigation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure the ferries&#8217; operability, 8 MWh storage batteries will be installed in the <strong>ports of Tarifa<\/strong> and <strong>Tangier<\/strong> , complemented by an OPS ( <em>Onshore Power System<\/em> ) <strong>recharging system<\/strong> . Energy will be supplied by innovative autonomous robotic arms, capable of recharging the necessary batteries in just 40 minutes during the stopover in each port. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Port Authority laid the foundations for this project, which is aligned with our values of innovation and sustainability. We have taken on the challenge of turning the Tarifa-Tangier Ville line into an example of mobility, modernity and international sustainability. <\/p>\n<cite>Adolfo Utor, president of Bale\u00e0ria.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The project has the support of the <strong>Port Authority of Algeciras Bay<\/strong> ( <em>APBA<\/em> ), which has prioritised environmental criteria in awarding the route to Bale\u00e0ria for the next 15 years. &#8221; <em>We want to be drivers of the energy transition and facilitate strategic projects such as this one<\/em> ,&#8221; said Gerardo Landaluce, president of the APBA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em><strong>fast ferries<\/strong><\/em> will have an optimized design based on the Eleanor Roosevelt and Margarita Salas models, with a width of 25 meters, capacity for 804 passengers and 225 vehicles, and a maximum speed of 26 knots. In addition, they will incorporate technologies to improve stability and maneuverability, such as a <strong>T-Foil system<\/strong> to cushion vertical movement and bow thrusters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure efficiency and safety, the ships will be equipped with backup diesel generators with a total capacity of 11,200 kW, which would only be activated in the event of contingencies, maintaining their primarily electric operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Tarifa-Tangier Ville green corridor<\/strong> is part of a joint effort between public and private entities to promote sustainable mobility in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/schottel-autonomous-electric-ferries\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"199557\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">maritime transport<\/a><\/strong> .
