Liquid Wind<\/strong> , in collaboration with Turun Seudun Energiantuotanto Oy<\/strong> ( TSE<\/em> ), is developing a major clean energy project by establishing a facility designated for the production of eMethanol fuel in Naantali, Finland.<\/p>\n\n

Naantali plant to boost eMethanol fuel<\/h2>\n\n

The future plant will be designed to produce 100,000 tonnes of eMethanol annually from green hydrogen<\/strong> and biogenic CO\u2082<\/a><\/strong> . This process will harness the CO\u2082 generated by TSE\u2019s Naantali 4 plant, along with steam to facilitate production. In addition, the waste heat generated will be redirected towards district heating, reducing the dependence on traditional incineration. <\/p>\n\n

This “electric fuel”<\/strong> is based on its ability to replace fossil fuels in sectors that are difficult to decarbonise, such as maritime transport and aviation, as well as its role in reducing carbon emissions. In addition, it is estimated that the plant will use up to 160,000 tonnes of biogenic CO\u2082 per year, consolidating itself as an example of a circular economy. <\/p>\n\n

Liquid Wind<\/em> is leading the development of the project, having initiated the necessary environmental assessment and permitting processes. In the meantime, together with TSE, options will be explored to ensure a stable supply of renewable energy to support the production of eMethanol<\/strong> . <\/p>\n\n

The final investment decision<\/strong> (FID) is expected in 2026, with a projected start of operations date of 2029. This schedule reflects the scale of the project and its commitment to long-term sustainability. <\/p>\n\n

Liquid Wind CEO Claes Fredriksson underlined the global and local relevance of this effort, highlighting the potential to transform fossil fuels into low-emissions electronic options. TSE CEO Pertti Sundberg, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of the project in achieving the region\u2019s climate goals and ensuring more sustainable district heating. <\/p>\n\n

This project enhances Finland<\/strong> ‘s position as a leader in the hydrogen economy<\/a><\/strong> and innovative solutions for decarbonisation. In addition to environmental benefits, it also strengthens local infrastructure and creates new economic opportunities. <\/p>\n\n
