Source: James Bruton <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Spherical wheels: the keys to the omnidirectional bicycle<\/h2>\n\n<p>The bike is based on two rigid spheres, commonly used in circus acts, which are <strong>driven by omnidirectional wheels<\/strong> . These wheels, arranged at a 120-degree angle, allow for precise maneuvers and linear or lateral movements. Source: James Bruton <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>The structure was made from 3D printed parts, using large-bore nozzles to print robust components and 4040 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/american-aluminum-market-castings\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"132045\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">aluminum<\/a><\/strong> extrusions, known for their strength and flexibility in modular assemblies. Additionally, Bruton used <strong>custom aluminum plates<\/strong> , manufactured by PCBWay, to secure mechanical connections between parts. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Challenges overcome, tests and final adjustments<\/h2>\n\n<p>Key challenges included <strong>preventing the wheels from slipping on the spheres and managing the build-up of static electricity<\/strong> , which affected the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/electronic-tattoos-could-replace-smartphones\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"23635\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">electronic components<\/a><\/strong> . To address this, an <strong>electrical grounding system<\/strong> was designed that connects all the metal components, preventing static discharges. PID parameters were also adjusted to optimize balance, inspired by an earlier Bruton project, his &#8220;screw bike.&#8221;  <\/p>\n\n<p>In initial testing, <strong>the bike proved capable of balancing and maneuvering effectively<\/strong> , even with the weight of the rider. Bruton implemented manual controls on the handlebars, including twist grips to adjust direction and speed. Although the vehicle can move in any direction, Bruton noted that it requires further adjustment to improve traction at high speeds and maneuver in tight spaces.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A breakthrough in omnidirectional vehicles<\/h2>\n\n<p>With this project, James Bruton continues to redefine the boundaries of engineering and technology applied to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/new-air-device-urban-mobility\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"93938\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mobility<\/a><\/strong> .
