This mammoth project took place at the Dongying Wind Power Equipment Certification and Testing Innovation Base, Shandong Province, China. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The colossal design of the floating wind turbine<\/h2>\n\n<p>The <strong>Qihang<\/strong> has a rotor diameter of 260 metres, equivalent to seven football fields, and a shaft that reaches a height of 151 metres. This offshore turbine has the capacity to generate electricity for 3,500 hours per year under ideal conditions, and has a projected lifespan of 25 years. A single rotation of its blades can meet the electricity demand of a family for up to four days, avoiding the consumption of 25,000 tonnes of coal and reducing CO\u2082 emissions by 62,000 tonnes per year.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The design of the <em>Qihang<\/em> integrates advanced technologies that enhance operational stability and safety in extreme conditions such as typhoons. These include <strong>modular control systems<\/strong> and severe weather protection strategies, ensuring reliable operation on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/direct-electrolysis-of-sea-water-china\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"168077\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">floating platforms<\/a><\/strong> . In addition, the modularity of its components allows for greater flexibility in maintenance and scalability for future renewable energy developments.  <\/p>\n\n<p>From its roll-off in October 2024 to its arrival at the <strong>test rig in Dongying<\/strong> , the \u201c <em>Qihang project<\/em> \u201d demonstrated CRRC\u2019s ability to overcome technical challenges. This includes manufacturing robust structures to minimise deformations and conducting extensive testing covering more than 200 critical points.
