Turbotech, Safran and Air Liquide have validated the feasibility of a liquid hydrogen turbine<\/strong> . This development seeks to transform light aviation<\/a><\/strong> by offering a zero-carbon alternative in flight. <\/p>\n\n

Advances in liquid hydrogen turbine<\/h2>\n\n

The engine, based on a highly efficient regenerative design, was tested for integration with a cryogenic storage system developed by Air Liquide. This system operates at temperatures of -250\u00b0C, ensuring that liquid hydrogen<\/a><\/strong> is stored and used safely and efficiently. This advancement guarantees energy densities similar to those of conventional fuels<\/strong> such as Avgas or Jet A-1<\/a><\/strong> . <\/p>\n\n

According to Damien Fauvet, CEO of Turbotech, this project was made possible thanks to the collaboration between major companies in the sector and innovative SMEs. Safran Vice President Pierre-Alain Lambert highlighted the importance of these technologies in achieving a completely decarbonised aviation, while Xavier Traversac of Air Liquide stressed the need for collaboration in the energy transition. <\/p>\n\n

The BeautHyFuel project<\/a><\/strong> , formed in 2022, brings together leading companies such as these, including Daher with the backing of the French government. Its main objective is to certify hydrogen propulsion technologies for retrofitting in light aircraft<\/strong> . This work complements other initiatives aimed at reducing emissions from air transport<\/a><\/strong> , promoting a cleaner and more sustainable future. <\/p>\n\n
