Italy is taking an important step in protecting its marine and coastal ecosystems with the implementation of an innovative monitoring network<\/a><\/strong> . The Italian Institute for Environmental Research and Protection (ISPRA) has awarded Fugro a key contract to install and operate a wave and marine current measurement network<\/strong> in several regions of the country. This network, known as ROCA, is part of the Marine Ecosystem Restoration Project (MER), which seeks to improve the observation of Italian marine habitats. <\/p>\n\n

Installation of the ROCA monitoring network<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The ROCA network, which includes tsunami early warning stations<\/strong> , will have comprehensive coverage of Italian waters. Fugro will be responsible for installing 11 SEAWATCH Wavescan buoys<\/a><\/strong> , designed to measure and transmit real-time data on various ocean parameters, such as wave height and direction, sea currents, temperature and air pressure. These buoys will be distributed in the waters of the Adriatic, Ionian, Tyrrhenian and Ligurian seas, at depths ranging from 210 to 3,000 metres. <\/p>\n\n

The ROCA monitoring network represents a significant advance in the sustainable management of marine ecosystems. By providing accurate and real-time data, the network will enable ISPRA to monitor the environmental conditions of the Mediterranean Sea, contributing to the protection of biodiversity and the promotion of sustainable practices<\/a><\/strong> in key sectors such as fisheries, tourism and the blue economy. <\/p>\n\n

Boosting ocean monitoring in Italy<\/h2>\n\n
