This measure responds to the need to guarantee the stability of the national electricity system, while <strong>Group 2<\/strong> remains out of service due to its innovation and technological transformation. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The operations of the Abo\u00f1o Thermal Power Plant<\/h2>\n\n<p>Currently, Group 2 uses coal and steelmaking gases, which will be adapted to operate with industrial gases, natural gas and renewable hydrogen. This process will take several months, with the aim of aligning operations with the decarbonisation objectives promoted by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/edp-search-projects-create-electrical-networks\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"98582\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EDP<\/a><\/strong> , thus reducing emissions and optimising the use of energy resources. <\/p>\n\n<p>Group 1, initially designed as a backup and limited to 500 hours per year, will take on a more active temporary role. The authorization is based on the environmental impact that the inactivity of both units would have, because the gases from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/arcelormittal-partners-with-casa-dos-ventos-to-develop-the-largest-wind-power-project-in-brazil\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"80270\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ArcelorMittal<\/a> &#8216;s steel plants<\/strong> , essential for the operation, would be burned in a flare, increasing atmospheric pollution. <\/p>\n\n<p>The conversion of Group 2 will allow the incorporation of cleaner energy sources, which represents a step forward for the project.
