This research project, with a budget of 4.2 million euros, will improve the efficiency of renewable energies by transforming heat into electricity. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Building a Polar Night Energy battery<\/h2>\n\n<p>The Finnish company was founded in 2018 and specialises in the design and manufacture of high-temperature thermal accumulators. Its main product is the <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/finnish-engineers-installed-the-first-sand-battery-that-stores-green-energy\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"43700\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>sand battery<\/strong><\/a> that stores wind and solar energy, helping to reduce fuel use. The inclusion of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/prototype-electronic-flexible-heat-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heat-to-electricity conversion<\/a><\/strong> ( <em>Power to Heat to Power, P2H2P<\/em> ) opens up new possibilities for energy storage and balancing energy networks.    <\/p>\n\n<p>According to the company\u2019s technical director, Markku Yl\u00f6nen, this technology will improve the reliability of renewable energy, while promoting the reduction of CO\u2082 emissions on a large scale. To validate and refine the process, Polar Night Energy is developing a pilot plant to be built in 2025 near Tampere, Finland. This pilot will focus on optimizing thermal storage and the efficient conversion of heat into energy.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The project has been supported by <strong>Business Finland<\/strong> , which will provide \u20ac2.1 million in grants to design, test and validate the technology.
