JERA<\/strong> and Toho<\/strong> have announced the start of the first commercial use of hydrogen-generated electricity in Japan for consumption at Toho Studios<\/strong> , Japan’s largest film studio, thereby achieving a reduction in CO\u2082 emissions in energy production.<\/p>\n\n

Commercial use of hydrogen electricity between JERA and Toho<\/h2>\n\n

Through its subsidiary JERA Cross,<\/strong> it has begun supplying electricity<\/a><\/strong> generated with zero-emission thermal energy powered by hydrogen. To strengthen its commitment to sustainability, Toho Studios begins using this electricity for its daily operations, setting a precedent for the use of clean energy in the entertainment industry. <\/p>\n\n

The project\u2019s infrastructure includes both gas-powered and fuel cell hydrogen generators, with a capacity of up to 320kW per unit, allowing the studio to access carbon-free energy 24\/7. Additionally, JERA<\/strong> \u2019s solar power<\/strong> facilities complement the energy offering, bringing Toho Studios closer to its goal of 100% carbon-free operation. <\/p>\n\n

Toho president Hiro Matsouka highlighted: “With JERA, we have launched an initiative to use carbon-free energy, which is essential to our responsibility as an entertainment company. Our goal is to produce films and creative content using clean, emission-free energy every day of the week, thus contributing to global well-being. <\/em>“.<\/p>\n\n

For his part, Yukio Kani, CEO and President of JERA, noted that this project benefits Japanese entertainment, and has a broader impact on the global energy sector: ” This effort to generate carbon-free thermal electricity and supply clean energy is a giant step that integrates renewable energy and cutting-edge digital technology to create a sustainable future<\/em> .”<\/p>\n\n
