Wilson Sons, the leading port and maritime logistics operator in Brazil<\/a><\/strong> , has taken a significant step in its environmental commitment with the construction of three tugboats designed to reduce nitrogen dioxide emissions by up to 70%<\/strong> . These tugboats, which will be ready to operate between 2025 and 2026, will add to the company\u2019s efforts to renew and modernize its fleet of more than 80 vessels on the Brazilian coast. <\/p>\n\n

Features of the new tugs<\/h2>\n\n

With a specialised design by Damen Shipyards and a double-keel structure, the new tugs comply with the International Maritime Organisation\u2019s IMO TIER III<\/a> environmental regulations<\/strong> . This advance will allow Wilson Sons to reduce fossil fuel consumption by up to 14%, thereby reducing the carbon footprint in the ports where they will operate. <\/p>\n\n

These vessels, built at the Guaruj\u00e1 shipyard (SP), will have azimuth propulsion and a bollard pulling capacity of 70 tons<\/strong> , capable of assisting large container ships<\/a><\/strong> of up to 366 meters in complex docking and undocking maneuvers.<\/p>\n\n

This construction project is supported by the Merchant Marine Fund (FMM) and the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), guaranteeing strategic financing to boost sustainability in the Brazilian maritime sector<\/a><\/strong> .<\/p>\n\n

Wilson Sons fleet growth<\/h2>\n\n

Arnaldo Calbucci, Chief Operating Officer of Wilson Sons, highlighted the importance of these tugs in the renewal of the fleet, an initiative that represents an advance in technology and operational efficiency and a positive impact on the maritime and port community. Each tug<\/a><\/strong> is equipped with a high-capacity fire extinguishing system (FiFi I) and low-emission engines<\/a><\/strong> , aligning with greenhouse gas reduction<\/strong> goals. <\/p>\n\n

Adalberto Souza, Director of Wilson Sons’ Shipyard Division, emphasised the excellence of the project thanks to the collaboration of specialised technicians and Damen’s experience.<\/p>\n\n
