Maersk has officially unveiled its new vessel AP M\u00f8ller<\/strong> , which is a dual-fuel methanol vessel<\/a><\/strong> . The vessel carries up to 16,592 containers and is part of the company\u2019s efforts to transform the shipping industry towards more sustainable solutions. This event took place in Singapore, a key hub for Maersk\u2019s operations in Asia and the Pacific. <\/p>\n\n

The christening of the AP M\u00f8ller is a celebration of advanced shipbuilding technology and a sign of Maersk\u2019s commitment to reducing emissions and decarbonising shipping<\/a><\/strong> . At the inauguration ceremony, key figures such as Murali Pillai, Minister of State of Singapore, underlined the impact of this initiative on global decarbonisation. <\/p>\n\n

This vessel is the ninth in Maersk\u2019s fleet<\/a><\/strong> capable of operating on methanol, an alternative fuel that can reduce emissions by 65% compared to conventional fossil fuels.<\/p>\n\n

Maersk’s vision for 2040<\/h2>\n\n

Maersk<\/a><\/strong> has set an ambitious goal: to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040. This fleet of dual-fuel methanol vessels, which includes 18 new ships scheduled for 2024 and 2025<\/strong> , is one of the main strategies to achieve this goal. <\/p>\n\n

The company is actively working with various authorities and companies globally, including Singapore, to promote green solutions to address the challenges of climate change in maritime transport<\/a><\/strong> .<\/p>\n\n

Singapore, global hub for green marine fuels<\/h2>\n\n

Singapore, known as a key port in Southeast Asia, is positioning itself as a leading hub for the adoption of alternative maritime fuels<\/a><\/strong> such as methanol. In early 2023, the first ship-to-ship methanol bunkering<\/strong> took place at this port, an achievement that demonstrates the country\u2019s commitment to sustainability in the maritime sector. This collaboration with Maersk reinforces Singapore\u2019s vision of becoming a benchmark hub in the sustainable fuels industry. <\/p>\n\n

Maersk has called on the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to implement regulations that close the price gap between fossil fuels and new low-emission fuels such as methanol, in order to make green options viable and competitive in the global shipping market. <\/p>\n\n
