B&W<\/strong> , through its B&W Thermal segment,<\/strong> has received full notice to proceed with this project at AES Indiana’s Petersburg Power Plant. This conversion seeks to replace coal as a fuel source with natural gas<\/a><\/strong> and reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the plant. <\/p>\n\n

Petersburg plant to start using natural gas<\/h2>\n\n

The project is valued at $246 million and involves the conversion of two coal-fired boilers with an integrated capacity of 1,160 MW. According to B&W, the gradual reduction in coal use<\/strong> will minimize the environmental impact of the power plant. <\/p>\n\n

B&W Thermal’s team will design and install natural gas, air and other necessary equipment, while its subsidiary Babcock & Wilcox Construction<\/strong> ( BWCC<\/em> ) will be responsible for construction. In addition, B&W FPS, another division of the company, will supply advanced technology such as burners, igniters and controls. <\/p>\n\n

B&W Thermal<\/strong> Senior Vice President Chris Riker highlighted the importance of this project: “We are proud to advance this effort, helping AES Indiana reduce its environmental impact. We see growing interest from utilities in switching to cleaner fuels to mitigate carbon emissions. <\/em>“.<\/p>\n\n

This complex project will be executed in a coordinated manner across B&W’s various segments, reflecting its experience in managing large-scale energy initiatives. The project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027. This initiative aligns with AES Indiana’s commitment<\/strong> to adopt sustainable technologies and modernize its energy infrastructure to meet current environmental standards. <\/p>\n\n
