With joint funding of \u20ac18.8 million from the European Union\u2019s Connecting Europe Facility, the ports of Aarhus, Gothenburg, Bremerhaven and Stockholm aim to provide shore-based power by 2030 through the EU.OPS.Network project. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Northern European ports ready to comply with EU regulations<\/h2>\n\n<p>Port of Aarhus COO Anne Zachariassen underlined the relevance of this project in the global context of the green transition. In her words, this collaboration represents an essential step forward in meeting the challenge of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/the-challenges-to-make-shipping-a-more-sustainable-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"69164\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the shipping industry\u2019s climate footprint<\/a><\/strong> , especially with the aim of complying with upcoming EU regulations, which will require <strong>vessels over 5,000 gross tons to be connected to the power grid in ports.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p>Land-based power will enable <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/maersk-places-order-for-6-methanol-powered-container-ships\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"89366\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">container ships<\/a><\/strong> to use grid electricity instead of their diesel engines, resulting in lower <sub>CO2<\/sub> and nitrogen oxide emissions, thereby improving local air quality and port working conditions.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stockholm ports and green energy<\/h2>\n\n<p>Stockholm\u2019s Norvik Port, which <strong>has already had a <a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/scotland-creates-new-green-energy-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"177797\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">green energy<\/a> -ready infrastructure since its opening in 2020<\/strong> , will be a key point in this transformation.
