{"id":202742,"date":"2024-11-04T16:21:25","date_gmt":"2024-11-04T20:21:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/noticias\/carbon-iceland-and-co2-as-fuel\/"},"modified":"2024-11-04T16:51:02","modified_gmt":"2024-11-04T20:51:02","slug":"carbon-iceland-and-co2-as-fuel","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/carbon-iceland-and-co2-as-fuel\/","title":{"rendered":"Carbon Iceland launches project to convert CO2 from factories into renewable fuel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>Carbon Iceland<\/strong> project has been launched in Iceland, with the aim of capturing more than one million tonnes of CO\u2082 per year from the country&#8217;s main smelters, including Nor\u00f0ur\u00e1l, operated by <strong>Century Aluminum<\/strong> , minimising the impacts of polluting emissions in the country.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Carbon Iceland project<\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>Mitsubishi Heavy Industries<\/strong> and <strong>Siemens Energy<\/strong> are collaborating on the project, bringing their expertise in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inspenet.com\/en\/news\/plant-mammoth-plant-co2-capture-in-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"154489\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">carbon capture<\/a><\/strong> and <em>Power-to-X<\/em> technology, respectively. With this advanced technology, the project will contribute significantly to Iceland\u2019s emissions reduction targets for 2030 and 2040, according to the Icelandic government. <\/p>\n\n<p>During the recent presentation in Reykjavik, Minister of Environment and Climate, Gu\u00f0laugur \u00de\u00f3r \u00de\u00f3r\u00f0arson, highlighted the importance of this project for Iceland&#8217;s energy transition. In addition, \u00datger\u00f0arf\u00e9lag Reykjav\u00edkur has signed a purchase agreement to secure the supply of this renewable fuel for its fleet, including the factory ship Gu\u00f0mundur \u00ed Nesi RE-13. <\/p>\n\n<p>This agreement is historic in Iceland&#8217;s maritime industry, adapting to the fuels of the future and reinforcing the country&#8217;s commitment to combating climate change.
