Neoen, one of the world\u2019s largest renewable energy<\/a><\/strong> producers, is advancing its expansion in Ireland with the construction of the Ballinknockane solar farm<\/strong> , located in County Limerick. This project, developed in collaboration with Omexom and TLI Group under EPC contracts, will represent Neoen\u2019s first grid-connected solar farm in Ireland. <\/p>\n\n

Winner of the RESS 2 auction, the Ballinknockane solar farm has increased its planned capacity from 61 MWp to 79 MWp, in line with the country\u2019s renewable energy targets. This contract for difference (CfD) secures the operation of the farm until 2040<\/strong> , promoting price stability and sustainability in electricity supply. This effort will contribute to Ireland\u2019s commitments to emissions reduction<\/a><\/strong> and sustainability. <\/p>\n\n

Environmental and community impact of the Ballinknockane solar farm<\/h2>\n\n

The solar park<\/a><\/strong> , which is expected to be operational in mid-2026, will generate enough energy to power approximately 16,000 homes and reduce around 21,000 tons of CO\u2082 annually<\/strong> .<\/p>\n\n

The company has also established a Community Benefit Fund, committing \u20ac1.8 million to local initiatives over the life of the project. In addition, green measures will be implemented, including tree planting, hedgerows and the creation of habitats for birds and insects, while sheep grazing at the plant will combine solar energy<\/a><\/strong> with agricultural practices. <\/p>\n\n

This project brings Neoen\u2019s total capacity in operation or construction in Ireland to 190 MW<\/strong> , adding solar and wind farms<\/a><\/strong> already in operation. The company has reaffirmed its commitment to the Irish market following its recent success in the RESS 4 auction<\/a><\/strong> , in which an additional 170 MWp of solar projects were awarded. <\/p>\n\n

Cyril Perrin, Director of Neoen Ireland, expressed his gratitude to the teams of workers, local authorities and partners in this project, stressing that Ballinknockane<\/a><\/strong> will be fundamental to diversifying the energy matrix of the region. Meanwhile, Xavier Barbaro, CEO of the company, stressed that this initiative reinforces the company’s ambition in its effort to accelerate the energy transition<\/a><\/strong> in Ireland and worldwide. <\/p>\n\n
