Recently, Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE) has added a car carrier, the POSEIDON HIGHWAY, to its fleet<\/strong> , designed to carry up to 7,000 vehicles. This liquefied natural gas<\/a><\/strong> (LNG)-powered vessel is an example of the shipping industry’s efforts to reduce polluting emissions and move toward more sustainable operations. <\/p>\n\n

Poseidon Highway: an eco-friendly and safe ship<\/h2>\n\n

Built by Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. at its Marugame site, the POSEIDON HIGHWAY features a dual-fuel electronically controlled engine, provided by MAN Energy Solutions<\/a><\/strong> , that optimizes the use of LNG and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology. This will enable a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions (by 25-30%)<\/strong> while sulfur oxides will be almost completely reduced, improving air quality. <\/p>\n\n

This vessel is also equipped with the latest safety certifications, including advanced measures for fire management in electric vehicles<\/a><\/strong> . It is the first of \u201cK\u201d LINE\u2019s car carriers to receive ClassNK (Fire Fighting) certification, reinforcing its commitment to safety and innovation. <\/p>\n\n

As part of its Environmental Vision 2050, \u201cK\u201d LINE has launched several projects to reduce its ecological footprint, with the goal of achieving a 50% improvement in CO2<\/sub> emission efficiency by 2030<\/strong> , exceeding the targets set by the International Maritime Organization<\/a><\/strong> (IMO). In addition, the company plans to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, relying on alternative fuels such as ammonia, hydrogen and bio-LNG. <\/p>\n\n

The POSEIDON HIGHWAY<\/a><\/strong> , with a length of almost 200 metres and a gross tonnage of 77,509, marks an important step forward on the path towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly maritime industry<\/a><\/strong> .<\/p>\n\n
